Five years ago this week, I was invited to do an exhibition in “Les Rencontres de la Photo de Chabeuil”, in France. Diane, my project coordinator and me were more than welcome in this little medieval town at the foot of the Vercors. For two weeks, Max, the founder of this festival, and his gang of happy friends made sure we would feel at home. We happened to talk and exchanged like we have know each others for decades. He became a friend. A friend I have not seen enough, as we lived on each side of the planet.
I had met Max in Madagascar a few years before and we vaguely talked about an exhibition in his beloved town. So in 2008, it became a reality and we had a wonderful time in his house with his family.
This year, Max will not be part of the “Rencontres de la Photo”. He left this world two months ago, surrounded by his friends and family… I think that with his energy, his curiosity and his great humanity, he is organizing a community cultural event, wherever he is.
Respect, Max, my friend.
